Zara Fragrances - Design story

I have recently been working a new range of fragrances from Zara alongside a fabulous cosmetic/fragance packaging company. There was no particular brief but the starting point was the redesign of some existing fragrances which sit as a family of 3 and are sold on the counter.

The chosen design is currently in-stores throughout London which is completely thrilling. I am wondering if they are selling internationally. If anyone knows I would love to hear from you. The illustrations on pack are by the amazing Sandra Suy who is represented by Jelly London

I have been a big fan of Sandras work for a long time and she seemed like a perfect choice + the fact that she is Spanish!  I also felt that adding illustration and different girls to the packs would be very engaging.

I like the idea of a fragrance almost becoming tribal and the wearer wearing *their* city… or how about having an amazing visit somewhere and wanting the memory as a scent? I hoped to convey an illustrative flavour of different nationalities and named the fragrances accordingly. See below. For example Brigitte/Francoise is French, Maria is Spanish, Giovanna is Italian (of course!!)

Here are the original concepts and it’s lovely when the finished design is true to them

Here is the London girl, Katie. She didn’t make the cut!

Along side these I developed concepts using illustrations by another of my illustrator crushes Garance Dore.

I also continued the theme of cities some more with inked drawings of buildings rather the people.

There are a lot more concepts but these link the closest to the version chosen and the most relevant to it. Now go and buy some! ;)
